Compassion in Dying is a national charity working to inform and empower people to exercise their rights and choices around end-of-life care. We support people to plan ahead for the end of life and ensure their wishes are known and can be followed in the event they lack capacity to make decisions for themselves. We also train healthcare professionals on discussing, recording and implementing advance care plans with a particular focus on Advance Decisions to Refuse Treatment, Advance Statements and Lasting Powers of Attorney for Health and Welfare.
We encourage people to discuss their advance care plans with their GPs and other healthcare providers. Our service users sometimes tell us that they have met with uncertainty around the process of discussing, recording and implementing Do Not Attempt Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) orders and Advance Decision to Refuse Treatment (ADRT) forms at their GP practice.
