CCG 1149 Bariatric Surgery

Request 1

What criteria, if any, has been stipulated by your CCG in relation to the provision of bariatric surgery? (e.g surgery restricted to BMI over 45 and/or other co-morbidities, surgery only for those with BMI over 50.

Response 1

Our pathway is compliant with NICE guidance.

Request 2

When was the criteria introduced?

Response 2

RCCG took over the responsibility for Tier 4 in April 2017 therefore the criteria prior to this was NHS England’s responsibility.

Request 3

How many patients have been refused bariatric surgery since the criteria was introduced?

Response 3

We took over Tier 3 commissioning on 12 July 2017, to date no patients have been refused in the new pathway.

Request 4

How many patients have received bariatric surgery since the criteria was introduced and how much has this cost the CCG?

Response 4

RCCG have been going through a transition from public health commissioned Tier 3 services which ceased in July, therefore the new pathway has not yet seen patients referred for bariatric surgery.  However to date during this financial year, we are aware that 10 patients have been referred for bariatric surgery from the previously commissioned service by NHS England which ceased on 12 July.
