I hope you are well, I believe you have had previous correspondence with my colleague regarding Community Audiology in Rotherham,

I understand from notes that you are currently undertaking a community service review and exploring your options with regard to future service delivery. I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss community audiology as part of this review, as a former commissioner myself I understand that there are many other priorities which you must deal with.

We are genuinely here to help however, and the recent Monitor report and subsequent NHS England Call to action on Audiology has highlighted the need to review Community Audiology Services.

I would therefore like to talk to you about the potential opportunities available to you as a CCG for Community Audiology. Community Audiology delivers the following key positives for CCGS:

  • Improved Access and choice for patients (in-line with the NHS Constitution)
  • Measurable and reported patient outcomes (in line with the CCGs mandate to commission for outcomes)
  • Huge financial savings compared to traditional audiology models and associated tariffs.

However, I understand you are happy with your current provision, what I would ask is whether you can answer the following questions for me regarding your existing provision to help understand the current state of provision. These questions are all vital aspects which can be delivered by a best practice audiology service (NHS England Best practice guidance):
